Help for children in Ahmedabad

Following the 2001 earthquake, CAI sent emergency aid to the region. We then refurbished two children’s wards at VS Hospital in Ahmedabad, the largest city affected by the quake. Since then we have continued to work with local Paediatricians to improve facilities for children. Dr Kathy Pearl, CAI’s Honorary Country Director for India visited Ahmedabad in 2003 and identified the urgent need for improved care for critically ill children. A 4 bedded High Dependency Unit for children was built with CAI funds in 2003 and was equipped in 2004-2005. It is now fully functioning.

The provision of facilities to care for critically ill children has undoubtedly saved young lives.
